I have to confess, I might have been trying to drown out certain other aspects of the dish of which I am less than fond. 😉
I don’t care for corned beef at. all. I assumed it was because I’m not even a little bit Irish. however, my German friends mostly love the stuff. (?)
For me it’s the cabbage. Yuck. But in general I am constitutionally opposed to green food. On this one yearly occasion, I eat it as a reminder of half of my familial roots while reflecting on how lucky I am to have that big helping of meat on top.
You + Ori.
Happy the Irish family that immigrated to the US and improved its standard of living significantly enough to eat meat regularly. When you read what the average Irish family was eating in 1848 it’s a bit frightening. I love cabbage, though.
Exactly. That’s a horror the high school history books never even attempt to convey.
And yeah. Ori and I are very much on the same page. 😉
Do they, Serv? Hehe, count me out. Hate the stuff and only tolerate it in something like Labskaus.
On a different note: Why is corned beef considered Irish?
That is the finest and healthiest looking corned beef and cabbage I have ever seen 🙂
Why thank you! Not visible: the bottle of beer in the broth.
suddenly that beef is looking a lot better 🙂
Meh heh heh.
Ditto what Servetus said. It doesn’t change my good opinion in the least.
Happy belated Paddy’s Day, Alyssa. We ate chips and baked beans yesterday *ggg*
Thanks! How good is it to be home (unavoidable snafus notwithstanding)? 🙂
It was wonderful to see my loved ones again, to sleep in my own bed, and to be in my own, familiar surroundings. Today I am suffering a bit from New Zealand-withdrawal but I quenched it by going into the Natural History Museum to look at the three Kiwis (feathered variety) displayed there. Then I received a surprise package from a RA sister, and suddenly the world is much brighter. Maybe the latter is also because the solar eclipse is over 😉
that looks very corned beefy.

ah, Labskaus. 🙂
I always thought it was Irish-American. To me the quintessential Irish food is the potato. But I just read this: http://www.thekitchn.com/heres-why-we-eat-corned-beef-on-saint-patricks-day-st-patricks-day-2015-216824
